Story League Creative Writing
In this fun and engaging class, kids will let their imaginations soar with free-form story writing using the Amherst Writers & Artists (AWA) workshop method.
Ages: 11-14
Dates: Saturdays, October 18 - November 22
Time: 10 - 11:30 a.m.
NO CLASS SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 15
Reading Event: Saturday, November 22, 12 pm
Location: The Glendale Room // 127 Artsakh Ave.
Details:
For each exercise, students are given a writing prompt, come up with an idea on the spot, and write nonstop for about 10 minutes. At the end of the time, students are encouraged to read their piece aloud and receive positive, supportive feedback from the group. Each exercise is a new prompt, and all stories stay in their notebooks (no homework, assignments, or grades). The goals are to create a safe space for free expression, get kids to trust and follow their creative instincts, and get more comfortable with the act of writing.
After the final session, there will be a reading event where students will read their favorite story from the class, and family members are invited to attend.
Story League is led by writer, journalist, adjunct professor, and workshop leader Erik Rhey, who has taught AWA-style workshops in LAUSD and with The New York Writers Coalition.
***Discounts available for families impacted by the Eaton and Palisades fires. ***
