DIVING INTO YOUR SOLO SHOW
A 4-Week Workshop to Develop Your Solo Storytelling Performance
Have you been dreaming about performing your own solo show… but still putting it off?
Maybe you've talked about it for years, or shared short stories at The Moth or other storytelling shows — but you know there's a deeper, longer, more meaningful story inside you that’s ready to come out.
If you’re feeling like “now’s the time”, this workshop is for you.
Over this 4-part course, you’ll take the first concrete steps toward creating your full-length solo storytelling show — typically 30 to 60 minutes long. Think of it as training for a storytelling marathon, compared to the 5–7 minute “10Ks” you've done at shows like The Moth.
Led by award-winning solo performer Michael-David, this class gives you the tools, structure, and support to finally bring your story to life. Michael-David has performed multiple acclaimed solo shows — including Birthday (winner of the “Outstanding Storytelling Award” at the San Diego Fringe Festival) and The Alligators of Malibu (nominated for “Best Solo Show” at the Hollywood 30-Minute or Less Theater Festival).
What You’ll Learn:
Weeks 1 & 2 – Shaping Your Story
We’ll zoom out to build your solo show roadmap. You may already know some of the stories you want to include — but you’ll learn how to shape them into a cohesive, compelling arc. We’ll work on structure, order, and most importantly, clarifying what your show is really about.
You’ll refine your show’s pitch, theme, and emotional throughline — creating a solid foundation to build from.
Weeks 3 & 4 – Finding Your Opening
Once your structure is in place, we’ll zero in on the first 10–15 minutes of your show — where you'll hook your audience, set the tone, and establish your voice. You’ll get feedback and guidance to shape a powerful, polished opening that sets you up for success.
Whether you’re ready to take the stage soon or still in the early stages of creation, this workshop will help you move from “I’ve been meaning to…” to “I’m DOING it.”
Let’s finally get your solo show off the ground — together.
Schedule:
Session 1 - Saturday, July 12 - 3:00pm to 6:00pm
Session 2 - Saturday, July 19 - 3:00pm to 6:00pm
Session 3 - Saturday, July 26 - 3:00pm to 6:00pm
Session 4 - Saturday, August 2 - 3:00pm to 6:00pm
Class Show TBD
