Midnight Movie

https://www.eventbrite.com/e/midnight-movie-tickets-58740348965
The Midnight Movie Film Club is excited to bring a night of experimental films and internet oddities to The Lyric Hyperion!

Midnight Movie was founded in March 2018 as an experiment towards capturing the spontaneity and mystery of attending an underground film in its heyday. Now on its 11th screening, Midnight Movie screens trash films that explore internet aesthetics and nostalgic imagery with DIY filmmaking approaches. The lineup is a mystery until projected, and all participants are under the radar.

Come early for “live music” and the Preshow, a collection of videos from the internet compiled for your entertainment.

It’s like getting sucked down the YouTube rabbit hole, but without being able to control what you click.

Lovers of trips, throwbacks, and transgressive film will find a home at Midnight Movie.

Midnight Movie is also accepting submissions until March 20th. There are no rules. Anything can be a Midnight Movie: a short film with a big budget, or a movie you made in middle school. There's only one condition: you must accept membership into the Midnight Movie Club.

If interested or with questions, reach out to christianofmidnightmovie@gmail.com or on Instagram at @itsmidnightmovie

Lounge lizard Buddy Cole from Kids in the Hall makes a return to the limelight in an evening of humorous monologues from the period the show went off the air in 1995 to the present

Written and Performed by Scott Thompson

Directed by Robin Collins

Well known to fans as a member of the sketch comedy troupe The Kids in the Hall, Scott Thompson is anything but your average comedic talent. After Lorne Michaels discovered them in the late eighties, The Kids in the Hall created a groundbreaking television series which ran from 1989 to 1995 on CBC in Canada and on HBO and CBS in the United States. After the Kids left television in 1995, Scott and the boys went on to write and star in their own feature film, the cult favorite Brain Candy. Thompson appeared as a regular for three years on Garry Shandling’s revolutionary comedy series The Larry Sanders Show as Brian, the assistant to Hank Kingsley. In this period and afterwards, he made numerous guest appearances on various talk shows such as Politically Incorrect, The Late Show with David Letterman and was a regular fixture on Late Night with Conan O’Brien.

Thompson along with Paul Bellini, is the author of Buddy Babylon: The Autobiography of Buddy Cole, a hilarious memoir of one of Thompson’s most famous characters, bon vivant Buddy Cole. He has appeared in such feature films as Ron Ronnie Run, The Pacifier and Mickey Blue Eyes and such television series as Hannibal, Reno 911!, Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Carpoolers, The Odd Squad, Man Seeking Woman, Touched by an Angel and Degrassi High. Most Monday nights, Dr. Brown gives audiences an insight on how to build shows. But this week, we're going to be looking at how to build great performers. Chad Damiani will live direct a group of talented and brave clowns through the devising process, pushing them to dig deeper and fail bigger -- all in front of a live audience.

ABOUT CHAD DAMIANI: Chad is a clown and improviser who has worked with Dr. Brown to create shows like Gerald, The Womaning and Drama. He's one-half of the clown duo Jetzo (with Juzo Yoshida) who've performed all over the country, and a performer and co-producer of The Murge, directed by former Cirque Du Soleil John Gilkey.

Maiden Voyage Presents: A Night of Comedy and Music benefitting Peace Over Violence

About this Event

Come see some of your favorite LA comedy goddesses in this all-female benefit show! Will there be a raffle and an auction? YES! Will there not only be improv from some unbelievable teams but also live music? YES! Will there be booze?!? DOUBLE YES!

All proceeds will go to Peace Over Violence, a Los Angeles based non-profit dedicated to building healthy relationships, families, and communities free from sexual, domestic and interpersonal violence.

Tickets are $10! Bring cash to participate in the raffle or the auction :)

FEATURING:

Obama's Other Daughters

The Katydids (otherwise know as the cast of Teachers on TVLand!)

Maiden Voyage

and our amazing host, Milana Vayntrub!

Music by Party Nails

This is a special show in honor of Sarah Hawley, one of our teammate Rachel's oldest and dearest friends who was just lost to domestic violence. She had an unmatched exuberance for life, commitment to active compassion for all people, and a complete fearlessness in the face of any challenge--she was equal parts cozy love and fiery gusto. This show is for her. (Also, she would certainly want it mentioned that when she visited Rachel at college she willingly participated in improv practice having never done improv before and flawlessly played a nuanced Rabbi character.)

Alan Starzinski: Let's Cry

https://www.eventbrite.com/e/alan-starzinski-lets-cry-tickets-58691389526

Alan has written and performed several one man shows in the past, but recently has felt he’s been lazy. So, he decided to do something completely insane and commit to creating an entirely new and different one man show a month for an entire year. Some of these show will be seen again someday down the line, others will only be spoken about in legend.

Every 2nd Wednesday of the month for all of 2019

This March: Let’s cry.

This show is about opening up and being vulnerable. Most of my shows I’ve written are comedy. With the goal of getting one reaction, laughter. I’d like to reverse this and make my goal for you to cry.

Grumble's Love & Anger

Doors at 11:30, show at Midnight

The Lyric Hyperion is honored to host Betty Grumble again!

__________________________________________________________________________

A womanifesto, call to arms and long, hard kiss from surreal showgurl, obscene beauty queen and totem critter, Betty Grumble.

Witness her ecosexually charged protest party of dancing dissent, disco and deep push back-ery, where pleasure is a radical act and the body a bloody love letter. Love and Anger is a “reclamation of the feminine spirit in all its juices, jiggles and joy” (Edfest Mag).

“A Revelation.” -The Age

“Exhibitionist, provocateur, singer, dancer, contortionist, Betty Grumble offers a literally penetrating evening in the theatre. Love it or be angered by it, 'Love and Anger' is risky, risque and strangely irresistible.” -Sydney Arts Guide

“Grumble insists that our attention is placed on the here and now, and in a theatre space where all our corporeality is congregated, present and irrefutable, she does marvellous things to her body, with her body, inside and onto her body, so that we may reach an image of ourselves, beyond taboo and outrage, that represents a renewed purity…The best thing about 'Love And Anger', is Grumble herself.” -Suzy Goes See

“Roaringly funny and filled with flesh, 'Love and Anger' is an empowering protest piece promoting the power of women whilst being a celebration of the female form. Funny and inventive and at times eye opening this is an entertaining night for anyone with an open mind…” -BroadwayWorld

'Transformative and Wild. SEE GRUMBLE!' - Peaches
