Jake Kroeger Dates The Audience

Jake Kroeger is 30 years old and has never had a significant other. He also loathes the idea of dating apps and has also found the idea of a "meet cute" to be something that doesn't happen in real life like it does in the movies/TV. Rather than take anyone's advice that anyone has given him his whole life, he's going to do something else.

He's going to go on a date with an entire live audience.

Tickets ($8): https://www.eventbrite.com/e/jake-kroeger-dates-the-audience-tickets-49511737941

To be clear, if you come to this interactive/experimental show, you will indeed be on a date with Jake (though he's open to it being a friend date if you're not looking for anything romantic).
Come to the gorgeous Lyric Hyperion Theatre & Cafe, an already great place for a date, on Tuesday, September 25th at 8PM to fall in love/make a friend/give Jake some much needed validation of any kind.
NOTE: please dress with cocktail attire. If your attire is not, you will be provided with a trash bag to wear during the show.

Journalist Carrie Poppy and comedian Max Sosna-Spear have master's degrees. They are also the actual smartest people alive. But they have a secret: sometimes they're afraid to share their opinions with their peers. And they suspect you are, too.

So they're inviting their (moderately) famous friends to chat, live and in-person, about their most controversial opinions, alongside an expert in that field. There will be scandal, there will be laughter, there will be openness, and there will be safety in sharing your darkest thoughts. PLUS, some serious surprises for the audience.

The Mother**ker With The Hat by Stephen Adly Guirgis

TWO SHOWS ONLY! 9/15 @ 8pm, 9/16 @ 7pm

Tickets ($25-30): https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/3426713

"Stephen Adly Guirgis is our new reigning poet of the obscene. He's a master when it comes to creating troubled New Yorkers whose uninhibited talking jags reveal far more about them than they ever intended; more than any other contemporary playwright, his dialogue crackles with profane comedy that, no matter how stylized, seems absolutely true of his characters. Focusing on the challenges of recovery from addiction and what he sees as a fundamental disconnect between men and women, Guirgis spins a comic tragedy out of a situation that would almost certainly be described by one of his characters as totally f-ked up."
- Lighting and Sound America.

"Guirgis, a brilliant comedic talent also has an original and knowing take on class, particularly as it plays out among the bottom-of-the-barrel working-class poor, who are virtually invisible to the wealthier men and women around them. Guirgis' characters are strivers who lack the language to 'pass' in a white-collar world; they're frustrated by limitations that they're only half aware of, and that frustration provides much of the painful hilarity in their dialogue, which piles miscommunication on top of misunderstanding."
- New Yorker.

"It's tight, smart and splendidly well-made, a tough-minded, unromantically romantic comedy that keeps you laughing, then sends you home thinking."
- Wall Street Journal.

"Funny indeed, not to mention surprising, disturbing and poignantly dark, a deeply rich comedy.  By not putting characters or their dilemmas in neat boxes, Guirgis gives us, in HAT, a slice of hard life that's as provocative as it is absorbing."
- USA Today.

Obviously, adult language, sexual situations & adult themes.

James Acaster is ‘One of comedy’s most original voices’ (Evening Standard). Last year he toured the country with a staggering three show ‘Trelogy’, performing Recognise, Represent and Reset consecutively over three nights in each venue. These three shows and Recap form the upcoming Netflix four part series, Repertoire. It’s the first of its kind, a stand up mini series with an overarching narrative, and James is the first UK comic to shoot more than one Netflix Original special.
Also last year, James released his debut book Classic Scrapes and toured the UK again to launch it, it made the Sunday Times bestseller list.

A whimsical master, he has received acclaim from around the world, including a record breaking 5 consecutive nominations for ‘Best Comedy Show’ at the 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 & 2016 Edinburgh Fringe Festivals, and winning the 2015 Chortle Award for Best Show, and Best International Show Award at the 2014 New Zealand International Comedy Festival.

As well as his glowing stand-up career, James is also a TV and radio regular and has secured himself as a favourite across both platforms. This includes appearances on panel shows such as Mock the Week and Would I Lie to You? Alongside many of his own projects; James wrote his own sitcom We the Jury in 2016 starring Diane Morgan, Ed Easton and Sophie Thompson.

James also makes things independently, a YouTube comedy series called ‘Sweet Home Ketteringa’ and a music album with his band ‘Luna Dott Raids The Bee Pigeon’ which is available on bandcamp.

Dead the Whole Time

Dead the Whole Time, is a spooky storytelling show, hosted by Lucé Tomlin-Brenner (Radio Picture Show, Upright Citizens Brigade) and Rebecca Lee Robertson (Pledges, Untitled Miranda July Project). Each month we feature a classic urban legend to inspire our performers, who are encouraged to tell tales ranging from fictionalized to true, comedic to spine-tingling. Brave audience members will be invited to share creepy folklore from their hometowns as well, and flashlights will be provided to fraidy cats. Dead the Whole Time is a perfect night out for indoor kids who want that campfire vibe without all the bugs, and campers who can’t get out of town but long for the darkness of an isolated cabin in the woods.
