Back In The Closet

So excited to do these first test runs of my weird one man show BACK IN THE CLOSET this month at Lyric Hyperion Theater... Those guys there are the coolest, and i can't wait to finally birth out this wild beast of a show in their space...

I have no idea what’s going to happen on this first night but it will be cosmically humiliating, cover crucial topics like blowjobs Tonya Harding and prime rib, and will you laugh and/or cry... probably one of the two will more than likely for sure happen.

It's a quick 40 minute show, so come at 8 to watch me make a deep and profound ass of myself in front of everybody and never be able to look at me the same again!!

Tuesday night January 22nd starts at 8 PM @ Lyric Hyperion Theater in Silverlake. the show is not appropriate for (most) children.

Sparkle Hour!

https://www.eventbrite.com/e/sparkle-hour-tickets-41858016454?aff=coe1

Find your inner sparkle! Battle dragons and inner demons in this true-life, one-man musical following Philip Sparkle, a wannabe wizard who gets sucked into a black hole called Grindr, comes out to a room full of nuns, and discovers what comes after life as a twink.
Directed by Annie Donley.
Written and Performed by Philip Markle.

Tickets $10: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/sparkle-hour-tickets-41858016454?aff=pm1
Reviews:
“Everything about Philip Markle and his one-man, one-hour, part original-musical and part sketch, Sparkle Hour is bigger than life, chock-full of laughs, and deliciously naughty. Sparkle Hour follows Markle, who is as puckish as he is engaging, as he recounts his journey from adolescence to adulthood. Philip Markle’s Sparkle Hour is unconventional, full of vivacity and wit, less than an hour, and a perfect example of what great fringe theatre can be.” — Theatre Is Easy
________________________________

“Bolting through the audience and bounding on to the stage with the conviction of a tent revival evangelist, Philip Markle quickly wins over the audience with his enthusiasm. Mr. Markle’s sly and knowing smile never leaves his face during the 55-minute piece that flies by effortlessly due to the talent and energy of its star. Mr. Markle brilliantly balances the glittery outrageousness of his performance style with amazing storytelling skill. Coming out of his shell with vim and vigor, Markle brings home the message of “Be yourself, love yourself” at the heart of Sparkle Hour! ” — Nytheatre.com

Keara Murphy: Dark One

After the recent death of her Mother, Murphy explores her Mother's life and legacy with stories spanning three centuries of Northern Irish Catholic women.

From her Grannie's youth in a relatively peaceful late-19th Century Ireland to her Mammy's early-life in 1930s Belfast the story moves to 1970s Glasgow and Murphy's own childhood where - alongside the Space Hoppers, psychedelic wallpaper and brown flared cords -  Sectarianism prevailes.

She reminisces about family trips to Belfast on the boat from Ardrossan, where fully armed soldiers routinely searched the family car for bombs amongst the Jesus Sandals, picnic hampers and baby bottles.

Murphy recalls the many seaside holidays she enjoyed with her siblings along Ireland's wet and rugged coastlines, beyond the barricades.

The show includes lighter moments such as Mammy's parenting tips on raising eight babies whilst also managing to fit in the Crossword in the afternoon, getting to grips with 21st Century technology and ensuring she never missed an episode of Coronation Street.

The show balances the political and the personal in a way that is both uproariously funny and poignantly moving; this is a bitter-sweet show about life in the bumpy lane following three generations of Northern Irish Catholic women.

This show makes its debut in Leith before touring Scotland, Ireland, England, Central Europe and the United States of America

https://www.facebook.com/events/1700145933379852/

Hey guys, here we go--time for round dos. I’m making another solo show. About damn time, ‘cause if I lay another egg I’m gonna blow my brains out (jk jk lol). I have no idea what I’m gonna do--classic nat. But, I can promise you that it will walk the line... which line that is, I’m not sure. If you come, you will see. You might not like what you see. I hope you do, but also don’t give a fugg if you don’t, because I don’t sing for you, baby. Hopefully this show will be as good if not better than LAID, but it’s unlikely, because, let’s be honest, that first one was a fluke. Just kidding. I know I’m so great.

Jetzo Builds a Show

For the first-time ever, JETZO (ジェットゾー)is building a scripted show -- and we want you to be an integral part of it! Every Monday, we'll improvise and present material for one hour, then have a talk back with the audience. You'll give us your feedback and we'll use it to restructure and shape the direction of the show. It's a great opportunity to see how the process works, and contribute to the creation of something entirely new.

The process will be directed and overseen by the Lyric's Artistic Director, one-and-only Philip Burgers (aka Dr. Brown). Phil used this process to develop Natalie Palamide's amazing award-winning solo show LAID, as well as the Lyric's recent run of shows like Gerald - An Epic and Incubator series.

Neil Simon's "Barefoot in the Park" is a romantic comedy focusing on a pair of newlyweds, Corie and Paul, as they begin married life in a tiny, 5th-floor walkup apartment in a Manhattan brownstone. Paul is a strait-laced attorney; Corie has a far more spontaneous, free spirit. As the young couple contend with a lack of heat, a skylight that leaks snow, several long flights of stairs, oddball neighbor Victor Velasco, and Corie's well-meaning mother, they must also reconcile their own personal differences in how they approach life's challenges.
